Phone's have become an extra appendage for us. To this day, I still feel phantom vibrations from my pants pocket when I don't have my phone on me. While they have become extremely useful, they can provide an obstacle when we need to be in the moment in real life. I wanted to quantify my cellular habits to see the correlation between how I use my phone on a weekly basis and my overall reliance on my phone. This is why I did this data-driven project.
The following is a dashboard I created to analyze my screentime over the past couple weeks. I used my iPhone's innate screentime tracker to retrieve the data, manually recorded it in Google Sheets, and then used Google Data Studio to create the dashboard.
You can check out the sheet yourself below:
After collecting my data, I did some descriptive analytics and that offered me a chance to learn more about my relationship with my phone.
I learned that I am spending about 5 hours/week respectively on apps such as Instagram, Safari, and Reddit. That is a total of 15 hours/week on just those 3 apps alone! When compared to LinkedIn, I spend on average 1 hour/week. Going forward I do want to spend more time on LinkedIn because for someone my age at this point in my career it is crucial.
I went more in-depth with some insights and patterns I saw and summarized then into a dashboard. Take a look and let me know what you think!
Well written and beautifully designed data! Made it a lot easier for me to understand each data point!
